Heritance Kandalama is a pioneering eco-friendly hotel designed by acclaimed architect Geoffrey Bawa. The structure is built on stilts within a protected forest, allowing water to flow underneath and vegetation to cover the building. Corridors end with panoramic views of the lake and Sigiriya Rock, with no walls to obstruct the landscape.

Dining

The hotel offers a private cave dining experience unique to the property, set within the nearby rock formations. Kanchana Restaurant serves international cuisine with daily themed nights, while breakfast can be arranged on the lake. Homemade jams produced on site, such as pineapple, are available for purchase.

Wellness & Activities

Coco Spa on the 6th floor provides spa treatments with views of the lake and jungle. Three swimming pools include an infinity pool that blends visually with Kandalama Lake. Guests can use tennis courts, a gym, and join excursions like mountain cycling, boat rides, and guided hikes with the hotel naturalist.

Rooms feature oversized glass bathroom walls that allow natural light and views of the outdoors. The luxury rooms in the Sigiriya wing offer distant views of Sigiriya Rock, while the Dambulla wing rooms face the lake. Each room includes a balcony and rattan furniture, with some rooms offering double-aspect views.

Heritance Kandalama sits within a protected forest near five UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Sigiriya Rock Fortress and Dambulla Cave Temples. The hotel is a 20-minute drive from Dambulla town and a 3.5-hour drive from the airport. Minneriya and Kaudulla National Parks for elephant gatherings are accessible from the property.
